Disable Microsoft Accounts Annoyance

Yet another annoyance from the 'tards at Microsoft is to try and coerce people into signing using their online credentials to log into their PC or laptop. You'll see this when you log into your computer and get the "sign in to enjoy the full range of microsoft apps and services" dialog. Like there's anything they have to enjoy... (eye roll)

MS is slowly stepping toward a scenario where they implement a subscription-based operating system. They already do that with Office 365, getting you to pay every month for the right to use Office products. Instead of paying for it once and owning it, you now have to rent it over and over again. Imagine if you had to do this with your favorite music. Instead of paying for it once so you could enjoy it whenever you felt like it, you could only rent it and had to pay for it over and over again, every month.

Here's how to disable this little bit of coercion:

    • Launch gpedit.msc
    • Navigate to (Could they have buried it any deeper?):
               Local Computer Policy
          Computer Configuration
             Windows Settings
                Security Settings
                   Local Policies
                      Security Options
    • In the right pane, select "Accounts: Block Microsoft Accounts"
    • In the dropdown, choose "Users can't add Microsoft accounts"
    • Click OK
    • Reboot (It is Microsoft, after all)

    No questions yet.
